Recruitment assistance
The Washington State Department of Health provides recruitment services for healthcare facilities located in rural and underserved urban communities. Our goal is to ensure the healthcare system in Washington State has the professionals needed to help build healthy communities. Through a partnership with other state organizations and 3RNet, direct recruitment efforts are provided for the following types of practice sites:
  • Rural areas, including Rural Health Clinics and Community Health Centers
  • Tribal settings (Indian Health Service or self-governed)
  • Urban sites providing care to medically underserved patients
  • State correctional and mental health facilities
If you’re an employer seeking help with provider recruitment, posting an open vacancy, or would like information on programs and resources important to the health care workforce in rural and under-served areas visit 3RNet.

J-1 visa waiver programs
International medical graduates completing a U.S. residency program on a J-1 (educational) visa often seek opportunities that qualify for J-1 Visa Waiver sponsorship where a physician works at least three years for an eligible employer in an underserved community. Healthcare facilities find recruiting an international medical graduate an excellent strategy for filling long standing physician vacancies.

Loan repayment programs
Several government loan repayment programs are available to help healthcare facilities recruit and retain a variety of clinician types. To schedule a discussion of which programs your facility might qualify for contact us at ruralhealth@doh.wa.gov.

3RNet recruitment and retention resources
We partner each year with 3RNet to make available free provider recruitment and retention training for all safety net facilities in Washington. The 3RNet Recruiting for Retention Academy is a six-part webinar series featuring practical, action-oriented content for healthcare facilities within a workshop-type approach. The 2019 3RNet Academy will begin in October.
